One of the basic things that you need to know as a learner of the English language is that you should know the rules of grammar while at the same time improve your vocabulary. Vocabulary refers to the list of words that you should know in order to communicate with others in everyday life in English.

Grammar and vocabulary are therefore the twin major aspects of the language and you can learn them using traditional means or through ordinary easy methods. You need to study the rules, read books on miscellaneous topics in the language and pay attention to the instructions and signs on products of everyday use.

Look Up a Grammar Book: A grammar book will acquaint you with the rules of the language and increase your vocabulary. These books can be purchased online or from stores and explain the basic principles of formulation and construction of sentences, subject-verb agreement and help you with useful words which recur in the language.

By going through the rules continuously, you can use the grammar and vocabulary books for getting a basic understanding of the language and then apply the laws to everyday situations.

Learn New Words Everyday: One of the best ways of picking up new words and enhancing your English vocabulary is to pick up a new English word everyday, find out the meaning of the word and memorize it so that you can use it later on. You can focus on verbs, or adjectives, nouns and so on.

Read Books: The best way out is to be a reader. Ask anyone who is an expert in the language and they will tell you that they are proficient readers. Books written in English are a unique way of expanding your stock of words. Novels and short stories or informative magazines are good examples that can teach you about the rules of correct grammar and usage of words.

You can even observe the way in which English words have been used in the sentence and how they have been applied. It is also a way to get familiar with the ways in which the word has been chosen and used. Keep a list of words you have learned and write down their meaning so that you can refer to them as and when required.

While reading, if you come across a word the meaning of which you don’t know, mark it and look it up in the dictionary. As you read on, the list will start growing and consequently, you will learn more words.

Be an Editor: You can correct your writing as well as the writings of others to get a through idea of the words that have been used in the sentences. If you are writing an essay or composition, allow your friend to make grammatical corrections in your work if there is an error. Other than increasing your aptitude, it will also help you master the language. Group interactions help you get a better picture of grammar and vocabulary.
