What is a sentence?
A sentence is a word group that has a subject and a predicate. The subject tells about the sentence. In this part it is noted that someone is doing something. The predicate is the complimentary part and elaborates how the action is done and what the object is doing. If we notice the sentence-
Ronny plays football
We find that there are two parts of the sentence.
Ronny/ plays football.
Ronny is the subject here for he is the person who is playing. ‘Plays football’ is the predicative part in which it is told what Ronny is doing.
All about verb
It is the action of the verb to link the subject of a particular sentence to an adjective that mainly describes it.
The sky looks bright
In this sentence ‘ looks’ is the example of a linking verb. It connects the subject, ‘The sky’ to the particular adjective’ bright ‘.
Now we have to tell about the ‘Transitive Verb’ A Transitive Verb has an object. Follow the example-
He sings a song.
In this sentence ‘sing’ is the verb. When we ask the verb what does ‘he’ do? The answer comes ‘sings a song’. In this way we come to know what the action of the subject is.
Now we can discuss all about the Intransitive Verb. An ‘ Intransitive Verb’ takes no object with it.
He sleeps.
In this sentence we find that there is nothing that follows the word ‘sleeps’.
