Use of Capital Letters and Some Spellings

When you are writing the English language it is very obvious that you will be using the capital letters as well as the small letters. But the use of capital letters is not that easy, you need to follow certain rules if you want to use capital letters when you are writing the English language. For example, when you are writing a letter you will not be using capital letters throughout the letter. There are certain rules which you need to follow. On the other hand at certain places if you are not using capital letters it is considered a grammatical mistake. So when you are writing the academic writings you need to be certain of the rules and then use them accordingly.

In the first place it is said that the personal pronoun “I” should always be written in capital letters. For example, I love coffee.

In the second place it is recommended when you are beginning a sentence or a speech it is expected that you use upper case or capital letters. For instance, I am planning to go for a movie this weekend.

Thirdly, it is recommended that when you are using short forms like UNO or NATO you are supposed to write them in capital letters.

In the fourth place the trend is that if you are writing days of the weeks, months of the year or you are mentioning some of the holidays in that case also you are supposed to write them using the Upper Case. For example, Monday, March, Christmas and like.

Similarly when you are writing the names of the countries, names of religions, names of nationalities or names of languages you are supposed to use capital letters. Examples of all these are Belgium, Greece, Christianity, Indians, English etc.

Again when you are writing the names of people you should use the capital letters. Suppose you are writing Abraham Lincoln or Charles Darwin, you are supposed to write the first letter of the name as well as the surname with upper casing.

Similarly it is advised if you are writing the name of organizations like the Red Cross, Walkman or Mitsubishi you are supposed to write the first letter of the word in capital letter. At the same time when you are writing the name of some of the well known places you are supposed to use upper casing. Like when you are writing White House, the first two letters of the two words ought to be in capital letters.

Besides these rules you need to remember when you are writing names of some of the famous vehicles like the Titanic or the Orient Express the first letters should be have an upper casing. Last but not the least titles of books, poems or playas should also have capital letters.

As far as spellings are concerned you need to follow certain rules when you are writing the adjective form. For example, when the adjective form of these words is written either “ly” is added whereas in some other cases there is exception to this rule. You just need to be a little careful.
